If anybody didn't understand just how good Ross is, watch his absolute schooling of Denis Buckley in Galway this evening
I was sorry for Buckley who has been an under-rated operator these past two seasons, but Mike chose this evening to give Leo a reminder, and anybody else watching, a serious demonstration of the significance of a great THP. He totally milled Buckley as the Leinster scrum knocked Connacht backwards at every scrum in a manner that hasn't happened in two Seasons.
Well done Mike. Message delivered. Now let's see who receives it.

I wonder is Lancaster the main instigator of Ross not being offered a new deal? He's known for a sort of 'out with the old, in with the new' approach to squad management. I'm not a fan of ageism in rugby, and I think it could be a mistake to let Ross go. If Furlong or Bent picked up a long-term injury next season, Loughman, Heffernan and Porter would have to be called on extensively. These guys are progressing well but why take the risk? Give Mike another year. He deserves it, and it seems to me that it would be what's best for Leinster
Ross might have been offered a deal and might not like the salary.
I'd be glad to have him next season but not at any price and the coaching staff should be mindful of the risks that his body won't be able for it. It gets delayed with props and progresses slowly but then can happen relatively suddenly.
He might have offers from a few clubs that would like to have him come off the bench and rarely start. This might prolong his career, I don't see Leinster wanting to use him this way even though it would make a difference to squad depth.

This. I'd love to see him transition next season from a reduced Leinster contract with PT role as national U20, U19, U18 scrum coach to a full time national underage scrum coach the following season.
He's only got 8 years of pro rugby in Ireland built up. it would make sense for him to play another season or 2 to maximise his 10 year tax refund.
Even if he only made a handful of starts next season it would still be great to have his experience about. Furlong will be coming off a lions tour so we can expect him to have a slow introduction next season.
