Depends how much they offer, he could opt for 2 and then push a rise again for a 3

Would be the smart move to refuse a longer deal if they're not offering him top dollar (because they know he wants to stay in Ireland and establish himself in the Irish team). Two years down the line, assuming he's made himself a permanent fixture in the Ireland squad, he'll be in a position to push for more.

It has happened before that young upcoming players have gone for 2 year deals

yeah youd imagine one or both will get a prop, more likely a project in Munsters case

whilst I would disagree with it I wouldnt be startled if Munster retain one of their centres

with exception of Boshoff Connacht's NIQS are wider squad players

If World Rugger are changing the qualification rules to 5 years next week, then perhaps there will be an announcement before that.

I'd say they wont be able to railroad in a guillotine cut off though and itll be players who signed/moved for this season onwards are 5 years and maybe 4 years for players a year or two into it, unless IRFU know something we don't

They couldn't railroad a retrospective change without a raft of legal actions across the world for discrimination, breach of contract and possibly even precedent.

The 5-year qualification is largely an acknowledgement of Tier 2 Nations and Pichot's election as Vice President of World Rugby (but don't presume this means he will ever be President with the same views).

The new qualification rules will have an impact in Ireland, Scotland, France and Australia. Elsewhere, it's largely irrelevant. However, for the Irish and Scots in particular, it has already meant a much closer focus on "our diaspora", the sons and daughters of first and second generation emigrants - from this Nation averaging about 50,000 p.a. male and female for the last 50 years i.e. since 1967. Assuming 40% of them got married and had two kids, that's about 2m kids over 50 years, or 40,000 in each calendar year, now ranging in age from about 10 to 40.

That's a fairly strong research base, largely in English speaking countries from Australia to the US. Names are a great giveaway, but not a foolproof route. However, something like sites like this could be a very useful tool building the database.

Know theres the exiles program in UK but a SH open line of communication at least would be good. Plenty of Bosses, Bents, and Courts out there and wages/opportunity to be year round pros would appeal to a lot of Mitre Cup, SA, and Aussies in gen

think theyve either revamped it, working globally, or maybe change in residency laws spooked them

either way we should continue to tap into our diaspora

All the Central Contract renewals are now in Leinster. Best very unlikely to play past the WC at 37 years old and even if he did it would be on an Ulster contract.

(Of course they could all be signed already. Murray said he signed his a month ago)
