If he is going on the Japan tour it is a bit of a kick in the nuts to all the other 2nd rows that have been scraping for provincial shirts all year while he has been in the gym rehabing.mildlyinterested wrote:James Ryan getting more gametime before the summer tour today for Munster Development against Ireland u20, starting 5.

Re: Academy 2016/2017
On that basis, no promising young player would ever get a shot. The reality is that he's our best second row prospect in a long, long time in a position where Ireland are now weakest. It's a perfect opportunity to blood him in a senior set-up against opposition where is unlikely to receive a traumatic introduction to senior international rugby a la Mathew Tait. No-brainer for me.El Diablo wrote:If he is going on the Japan tour it is a bit of a kick in the nuts to all the other 2nd rows that have been scraping for provincial shirts all year while he has been in the gym rehabing.mildlyinterested wrote:James Ryan getting more gametime before the summer tour today for Munster Development against Ireland u20, starting 5.

+1. He's potentially Ireland's Itoje and as such more likely to be appearing at RWC 2019 than his aging Munster namesake Donncha.Leinster Lout wrote:On that basis, no promising young player would ever get a shot. Heard Charlie Rock was moving to Lansdowne for next season.
Re: Academy 2016/2017
He's not Ireland's Itojé. Itjoé is only 18 months older and is a naturally bigger (not taller), more powerful, more explosive athlete. Ryan is a clever player, a line-out operator and a leader, with good mobility, game awareness and ball skills. But he will never have the pure physical impact of Itojé, as so few do.

Think you might be underestimating Ryan there a bit in terms of his physicality. One of the things that struck me about him last year was his speed off the mark. His acceleration is very impressive and allowed him score tries and make crucial tackles.
The English system will have their players a few years ahead of us in terms of conditioning, size etc.

McGrath, McElroy, Regan, Daly, Boyle, Frawley and O'Brien ex-club players.
None of whom are expected to make the academy this summer.

Pretty difficult to see how Tinmins could forge a career at Leinster to be honest. Not due to ability, but I just can't see how he will get enough gametime to develop further.mildlyinterested wrote:The following players graduated from the academy yesterday:
