he isn't an out and out speedster ala hickie
But he does look the business (in attack).

Wouldn't say so. O'Loughlin would have better long-range pace and Kelleher would have better acceleration.

Not sure about Adam Byrne. He's looked sorta heavy-legged sometimes, but other times he's looked fast - like his intercept against Northampton. Garry Ringrose covers the ground pretty rapidly, like for his try against Clermont

Noel Reid's fast too

Don't get to see Super Rugby so today's Lions game is first time I've ever sen Lowe. Not fair to judge on him on one poor performance in a team that was going backwards at a rate of knots and according to the totally trustworthy NZ media he has been brilliant this season. That said, he was awful today - catching, kicking, positioning - and if he can't cope with a wet night in Rotorua is he going to be able to cope with Thw howling gales out west, or a grunt and grindfest down in Thomond.

Will suspend judgement, but hope he's a lot better than what we saw today

He won't have endeared himself to Tadhg F when he mocked him for giving away a peno.
The odds are good but the goods are odd.

Normally I think penalties should be reversed for that
But that was some quality sledging
Tadhg might initiate him when he gets here

To be fair, I've never seen him wear anything other than the No 11 shirt all season for the Chiefs. He'd burn anyone on a 50 metre chase up the wing and has made a lot of well known players look very slow in the 5/6 games I've seen this year. Very like Isa in his positioning, and knowing when to come in off his wing.

Interesting you should say that. Watch the try scored 3mins 20secs into the video here:

You'll see Sweetnam beat him over 50 yards in a straight sprint.

To be fair, Mauler said up the wing, not down the wing.

I didn't know this. Thought he'd be here soon. Another player we won't have for the first European games? :(

Yesterdays Indo:
"New signing James Lowe is unlikely to be available until November given his commitments with Tasman in the Mitre 10 Cup (NPC), meaning Leinster are short on front-line backs."

It'll depend on how the Makos go I guess. Regular season fixtures are done by mid-october - playoffs and finals in the last two weeks of October. If the Makos go well, he'll be there for the duration, if they don't we might get him earlier.

Feeling lugubrious now. It would be just our luck for Lowe, Henshaw, Seanie, Sexton, Ringrose to filter back into the squad in December- following a couple of bad or suboptimal performance in the opening rounds of the HC which sees us almost out. Only to then turn it on in the second half of the competition to unavailingly make a great attempt to qualify.

And please... don't anyone mention again the great opportunity it will give our young and academy players!

In light of our decimated back line, I wouldn't mind our winning ugly for a couple of months with our pack squeezing the life out of the opposition 8, something we saw too little of last season, IMO.

Don't you know it's the hope that kills you?

I remember the Harlem Globetrotters before they were a cartoon. Now that's showing your age... :-)
