What has the main sponsor of 6 Nations got to do with it anyway ?
Re: Jackson & Olding: were UR/IRFU right or wrong to termina
Read an article yesterday that Jackson had already signed an agreement with Sale and Olding had a verbal agreement in place before the objection to them moving there arose.....

A rugby rape trial going on in the middle of a rugby tournament that they are spending millions on sponsorship! As well as that, NatWest's sponsorship was only for 1 year, so 6Ns will be looking for a new rugby sponsorship next year.rooster wrote:What has the main sponsor of 6 Nations got to do with it anyway ?
NatWest as part of RBS also sponsor the Ulster Bank League, so they are really big sponsors of rugby in Ireland.

Not really anything they could do about a trial in the middle of a tournament involving players who were not taking part.janeymac08 wrote:A rugby rape trial going on in the middle of a rugby tournament that they are spending millions on sponsorship! It actually shows how ridiculous the whole affair became.
I have been talking to a sponsor since and they got emails from all over the world but by and far the vast majority of the sender's had nothing to do with rugby and had no interest in it either and it was all to do with the general rumpus going on around the world about sexual exploitation of women.
To be honest the more I have heard the IRFU ran scared without taking a proper balanced view on it all.
Sale have had a few complaints but when looked at most have been from feminist activists in Dublin and Cork who seem to have tried to gain publicity for the 8th referendum using it

Former Ulster and Ireland centre Stuart Olding has signed a two-year contract with Brive in the French second division.
The IRFU and Ulster Rugby revoked the contracts of Olding and team-mate Paddy Jackson following a review in the wake of their acquittal on rape charges in March.
Former Ulster and Ireland lock Jeremy Davidson is the coach at the French club.
The D2 side, who won the Heineken Cup in 1997, announced the signing of the 25-year-old on their website this afternoon.

Brive got a bargain. He gets out of the limelight, can’t even get drawn in Europe.

I wish him the best of luck. He has the talent, but the court case and all its claims and implications will follow him for a long time yet. It won’t be easy.

THats a great signing for them. Hope it works out for him and he can get his career back on track.
Ruddock's tackle stats consistently too low for me to be taken seriously as a Six Nations blindside..... Ruddock's defensive stats don't stack up. - All Blacks Nil, Jan 15th, 2014

I just can't see the grounds for terminating their contracts as they had been found not guilty, but I am not oblivious to how toxic their brands are when it comes to sponsorship/pr etc.
I wouldn't want them at Leinster but I am not comfortable with what is, justly or unjustly, a lynch-mob.

A lynch mob is by definition unjust. That’s why it’s called by that title.MelbourneRebel wrote:I just can't see the grounds for terminating their contracts as they had been found not guilty, but I am not oblivious to how toxic their brands are when it comes to sponsorship/pr etc.

Well, that’s right as far as rugby stakeholders go. But there were other parties (not necessarily the ‘accuser’) who could have been deemed to have gained more than they lost- if they lost anything at all...Oldschool wrote:.BlueBlue wrote:Now what's done is done and what's won is won

Jackson being linked to Perpignan in France also Brive are meant to be sniffing around after signing Olding.

Brive or Waikato would be a big step down in standard for him. That being said, that's exactly the direction Madigan took. Perpignan would be a better option if they took him. What a mess!sunshiner1 wrote:Jackson being linked to Perpignan in France also Brive are meant to be sniffing around after signing Olding.

Beggars can’t be choosers now. He needs to get back playing. Anywhere really.Flash Gordon wrote:Brive or Waikato would be a big step down in standard for him. I’d take any of them on a one year deal- or two years for Perpignan.

Re: Jackson & Olding: were UR/IRFU right or wrong to termina
Perpignan have made it a priority to get a new out-half this season they are also linked with Janjies. I wouldn't go to Brive just because Olding is there. I think they need to stay away from each other in public for a while. Waikato or Perpignan would be my choices.
