Not doubting you on this but actually it was the first time I didn't notice any Connacht shirts around the bars or the grounds, crowd was poor, rugby was poor and I fear a very long season here at Ulster.

You can have Shanaghan and Moore back any time, you won't get Cooney though as he has made himself very much at home up here. Timoney is a very useful player around the pitch and any space at all and he will run like a centre

1st half non-event 0-3. Weather was soft yesterday. Got a rocket up them at half time and deserved the win. Not a vintage Tigers side. Could have had a BP at the end. Denied Tigers LBP with clock gone.

Finished 24-10.

Young Lowry at 15 deserves a mention.

Playing for 2nd at best especially after R92 winning in Llanelli.

Don't play it down rooster it was a very good performance and a crucial victory for Ulster, and I'm not just talking about your group. Imagine the doom and gloom if you'd lost.

Young Lowry at 15 deserves a mention.

I love him for the name alone. I wonder does he get paid in manila envelopes slipped to him quietly under the table like the namesake?

Watching the first half against Leicester at the weekend and conscious of the coaching outlook of McFarland, I wasn't the slighest bit surprised to see the early arrival of Marty Moore. As many in Leinster know, Marty has short-comings in his caloric discipline, but, when he's on the pitch and ready to go, there are few better THPs to give you a solid scrum, 'knock them down' tackling and great mauling technique.

IMO, Ulster have lacked two props of top quality for the past three Seasons. I've wondered why they haven't chased Paddy McAllister (Glou) or Jack O'Connell, who's now with Ealing for the LH side. Either, or both, of these guys should be coming into their prime years as props and, AFAIK, neither has any chronic injury weakness.

The Ulster pack has to be good enough to supply ball from all set-pieces on a regular basis at the top level. The front-row of the scrum is second-rate, despite the presence of two international hookers. Henderson, O'Connor and Treadwell are good second rows and Timoney, Murphy, Rea and Coetzee are excellent operators in the back-row. So recruit some decent scrummaging props and prospects could look very much brighter.

Lowry's display at full-back was couragous and talented. I'd seen him at No 10 at U.20's level but his broken-field running against the Tigers was an eye-opener. Curtis and Kernaghan look like the quality needed and Cave, McCloskey and Marshall have big contributions to make to their development.

I'm not yet convinced that Burns is at the top level - more Steenson than Carbury at present - but he can do a job.

On the way back and no panic. Rise up for the Ulster men.
