Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
Rob Kearney has signalled his desire to continue his career beyond next year's World Cup and says he is open to a move abroad.
The 32-year-old full-back's contract expires at the end of the tournament in Japan and he admits he had considered finishing at that point.
But he says a combination of his form, fitness and the results at Leinster and Ireland have convinced him to continue.
"I wanted to leave it until after November before I had any thoughts on it," he said.
"I've made the decision now that I'm going to play after the World Cup, in some capacity. So, I'm still no further down the road as to where."

Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
We've been averaging about 60-61% of players in Irish matchday squads in first tier tests this season [typically 14 of 23]. Extrapolating that figure out to a 31-man RWC squad would give 18-19 players, which is plausible.mildlyinterested wrote:Possibly missing for RWC:

One thing that I'm completely unsure of is the regulations regarding how many players can be in the country at any one time. Japan is obviously miles away from Ireland and it would seem to make an awful lot of sense to have an extra player from every unit of the team [i.e. one front row, one second row, one backrow, one halfback, one centre, one back-three player] in the country, either as part of the IRFU 'mission' or in a nominally private capacity.
Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
Seem to recall that's not allowed. Permanent replacements in the RWC squad can't feature in the matchday squad until 48 hours after they are officially called up.hugonaut wrote:We've been averaging about 60-61% of players in Irish matchday squads in first tier tests this season [typically 14 of 23]. Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
Its an awesome list but probable Leo is right now pencilling in the teams / squads he'll be capable of selecting in each week from Mid-September to mid-November 2019.
That's the sort of mindset and outlook which he has demonstrated since his appointment and why he and Joe get on so well. Leo totally gets the primacy of Ireland but because he is the main supplier in the chain, Irish Coaches understand the challenges he faces and the importance of ensuring that morale in the Leinster camp cannot be allowed to fall dramatically.
Recovery of Squad morale is a huge (and usually slow) challenge for any team and therefore 'bending the rules' to minimise / avoid such an event is a better strategy than insisting on priority, say between players 19-30.
That's the sort of mindset and outlook which he has demonstrated since his appointment and why he and Joe get on so well. Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
Conor O'Brien looked very strong going into contact against the Dragons. He's got a low-slung running style and sort of geared power, if that's the best way to describe it, that means he can knock people out of the way. Running lines, footwork and passing were very good too. Him looking so good is an excellent development, given 12 has been one of the problem positions, relatively speaking. Good to see

Yup, hope he can continue to step up when called upon.leinsterforever wrote:Conor O'Brien looked very strong going into contact against the Dragons. Would love to see him get a crack against Munster in Thomond.
Byrne/COB/ROL is a very good imitation of Sexton/Henshaw/Ringrose in terms of playing style.

I beginning to think that Dr Phil’s comments in Sexton being capable of a switch to 12 was idle deflection. Ross at OH with Johnny as the alternate playmaker would give Blackadder and Girve a different set-up to what they’re expecting. No loss of robustness in defence either with the two lads and Ringrose.
Given that with the bad weather on that already soggy pitch- and it being away, a non-bonus point win might be the realistic objective. Kick to the corners, in the air to reclaim and strangle them, might be a good strategy.

Honestly, if you told me right now that I could have the 4 point win for free against this Bath team, I wouldn’t take it.artaneboy wrote:Given that with the bad weather on that already soggy pitch- and it being away, a non-bonus point win might be the realistic objective. I think this should be a 5 pointer. This Bath team are dire and even with the bad pitch and front liners we’re missing, anything less than that will be pretty disappointing imo.
Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
I'd shake your hand on the same result as 2011 right now.
Sure I'd love 5 points.
Sunday, 11 December 2011 – European Champions Cup – Pool Stage Round 3 – The Recreation Ground
Bath 13 Leinster 18
Any away win at The Rec is always hard-fought and on this occasion, it was no different. Leinster had to rely on the boot of Johnny Sexton to clinch the points in this encounter.
Sexton kicked six penalties – five of which came in the second half – while two of those all-important goals arrived during the closing seven minutes.
Bath went close to claiming the scalp of the holders when England wing Matt Banahan barged over from close range after 65 minutes but it wasn’t to be.

Bath are a poor side, aim should be 5 points.
