Deegan-Doris-Josh Watch

Post by backrower8 »

Doris (1m 93cm 106kg; 7 caps this season; 4 starts at 8; 3 as sub)
Deegan (1m 93cm & 109kg (doubt that) 11 season caps; 3 starts at 8; 2 at 6; 6 as sub)
Josh Murphy (1m 96cm &106 kg; 6 season caps, all at 6) stats to date this season:

Doris/ Deegan/ Murphy
Minutes 352/ 481/ 344
Tries 1 / 3 / 0
Try Assists 0 / 1 / 0
Carries 61/ 73 / 61
Metres 161/ 183 / 91
MperCarry 2.6/ 2.5/ 1.5
Clean Break 2/ 2 / 0
Passes 11/ 20 / 9
Offload 1/ 1 / 1
Turnover 2/ 3 / 1
T/o Against 4/ 4 / 5
Tackles 63/ 73 / 47
Missed Ts 3/ 4 / 2
Pens Against 2/ 5 / 3
Lineouts 12/ 8 / 7
L/o Steal 0/ 0 / 1

Who thinks Deegan is losing the battle and should be put on loan?

Looks pretty even between him & Doris to me. Deegan has X-factor in his hands/distribution. Needs a bit more power close in.

Josh Murphy had a return to form against Ulster but is not as much of a playmaker as the other two.

Josh Murphy isnt meant to be a playmaker. He's a good and useful player but suffers because of the dynamic other 2 who have naturally better highlights reels.

It's nice to have so much talent.

Murphy doesn't have the same talent level as Deegan/Doris. Which is no slight as they both are uber-talents in irish terms.

Murphy is a 6 and hopefully will follow in the progression Ruddock has done, different skill set and grunt work to that if Doris and Deegan. I personally think That while the stats don’t clearly show it that Deegan is the better of the two between Doris and himself. deeg’s has a good couple of recent games and done key yards and ball handling skills that kept moves going to Leinster scoring tries.

Would be mad to let Deegan go

Murphy doesn't have capacity to be Ruddock, who can play all 3 backrow positions to a pro 14 level if not higher.

Doris should be groomed as Ruddock's successor IMO, with the ability to cover 8 too.

Some of Deegan's handling skills on Saturday were ridiculously good.

I'd say much higher than Pro14 level. In another era (or if he was English) he'd have 60+ caps and could have been Ireland captain. Just unlucky to play at a time where the Irish backrow stocks have been at their all time peak.

Caelan Doris - Rugby Players Ireland POTY.

https://www.rte.ie/sport/rugby/2023/051 ... by-awards/

Incredibly hard-earned award this year – a successful test series in NZ and a Grand Slam, as well as wins over SA and Aus at home. Outstanding achievement.

You’ve done BR8 real dirty here hugo pulling up this thread, he was just looking out for a former alum. It would be like if someone pulled up the thread where the emperor needed new clothing or something like that where Harry was to replace Johnny 3 years ago. You’ve done him real dirty here

Congrats Caelan some season :happy clapper:
