Re: Ireland 2018/2019
Luke McGrath injured, Cooney pulled out of the Racing game with a back injury and Marmion not back from surgery either. I know Murray is fine but it leaves us short at 9. With JGP not IQ until june Caolin Blade might be getting a call-up earlier than he thought.
Re: Ireland 2018/2019
You'd normally name 3 in a squad. Who's next. McCarthy is also injured. Duncan Williams?
Re: Ireland 2018/2019
It's at times like this that RTB"s depth chart comes in very handy.ronk wrote:You'd normally name 3 in a squad. Who's next. McCarthy is also injured. Duncan Williams?
It's due to be updated but as things stand Williams is next up.
However it's likely that Shanahan may have nudged in front of Williams in the pecking order.
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall who's the greatest player of them all? It is Drico your majesty.

Surely (and I can't believe I'm saying this) Dave Shanahan is the next in line - he's put in a number of excellent performances

Cooney should be fine to bench for the England game, and next up is Blade. After that...................................

Re: Ireland 2018/2019
Yeah at the moment it's Murray, Cooney (if not too serious an injury) and Blade. Marmion will be back soon enough but being out for 12 weeks I can't see him being parachuted straight in without being given a game or two at Club level thats even if he's back for the England game. Would agree with Shanahan over Williams. Not a lot in it but Shanahan is the younger man.

Age isn’t a factor this close to a RWC and this far down the depth chart.
There’s a 6N to try and win too.

If all get thru the weekend uninjured id say we'll see something like for the 6n squad:
Cian Healy, Jack McGrath, Dave Kilcoyne
Rory Best (c), Sean Cronin, Niall Scannell
Tadhg Furlong, Andrew Porter, John Ryan
Devin Toner, James Ryan, Tadhg Beirne, Quinn Roux
Dan Leavy, Josh van der Flier, Peter O'Mahony, Jordi Murphy
CJ Stander, Jack Conan
Conor Murray, John Cooney, Caolin Blade
Johnny Sexton, Joey Carbery, Ross Byrne
Robbie Henshaw, Garry Ringrose, Bundee Aki, Chris Farrell, Rory Scannell
Jacob Stockdale, Keith Earls, Andrew Conway, Dave Kearney
Rob Kearney, Jordan Larmour.
Against England I would start:
Healy,Best,Furlong
Ryan,Toner
Leavy, O'Mahony, Stander
Murray, Sexton

Bench:

Re: Ireland 2018/2019
I think Addison will be in the squad, likely ahead of both Munster centres. I think there will only be five back three players: Rob Kearney, Keith Earls, Jacob Stockdale, Andrew Conway, Jordan Larmour.Experimental wrote:If all get thru the weekend uninjured id say we'll see something like for the 6n squad:

I think Addison looks like he could become the real deal, but I think he is in a similar position to Adam Byrne, he needs to cut out those mistakes at provincial level to make himself a certainty. Personally, I think the Munster centres are more reliable at the moment. Theres no doubt Addison has a box of tricks, and im sure he will play some role in the tournament

I'd say Addison would go ahead of Scannell but that Conway and Larmour are very similar entities and one could miss out to a big winger like Adam.Experimental wrote:I think Addison looks like he could become the real deal, but I think he is in a similar position to Adam Byrne, he needs to cut out those mistakes at provincial level to make himself a certainty. Henshaw will be in the frame and will likely start if fit. Think Larmour will bench over Conway. On form you might take Cronin over Rory......though obviously, Rory is a superb skipper.Experimental wrote:If all get thru the weekend uninjured id say we'll see something like for the 6n squad:

Would definitely have Addison in. The guy can play several positons and is a leader. For his versatility alone that makes him useful

Re: Ireland 2018/2019
For me Conway is ahead of Larmour. Addison is ahead of either Farrell. Scannell is behing Henshaw and Bundee and doesn't count. Blade is well ahead of Shanahan and will be with Murray & Cooney.
McGrath with Healy at LHP. SO'B will be added after he plays against either or both Wasps & Scarlets. Best is outstandingly the best Hooker and his European performances proved this.
Time in Irish Camp is now vital for any potential Irish player. Therefore, whether by injury or otherwise, Blade will be included at this point.
If, as suggested by some, that he will name 41 players, that can include everybody mentioned.

Bleyendaal could be involved in the larger squad as he qualifies this month

Likely his injury is worse than expected and he's being rested, he may be back for Knock Out European Rugby and then in to the RWC warm ups.
Edit: I'm afraid that SOB is so injury riddled that it's likely to happen again, so... yeah. Leavy may yet visit Japan on tour, coincidentally, with his rugby boots.
Ross Byrne being omitted is a slap in the face.
