Re: European player of the Year
The longlist has nearly always been announced after the pool stages has it not?

I just thinks it’s too early, why bother with a long list at this stage?ormond lad wrote:The longlist has nearly always been announced after the pool stages has it not?

Only a matter of time before Munster try to make the South African Irish.johng wrote:Which of the 2 Fijians, the 2 English, the Frenchman and the South African are Irish?riocard911 wrote:9 out of 15 from Ireland. Yay!!!!

Is this a trick question? Did I get me sums wrong? Maths was never my strong suit.......johng wrote:Which of the 2 Fijians, the 2 English, the Frenchman and the South African are Irish?riocard911 wrote:9 out of 15 from Ireland. Yay!!!!
Re: European player of the Year
Just my smart Alec way of saying there were only 8 Irish.

These exercises always have way too much wum factor.
I can't see why you wouldn't put Ryan on there: I'd certainly have him ahead of Furlong (who I might have picked outright last season), in case they were applying some kind of quota.

Yeah, Ryan and Ringrose ahead of Furlong for me this year. Think Carbery is an optimistic punt based on the Gloucester game. I'd have selected Kilcoyne ahead of him for Munster, their scrum has been a weapon.

Also of confusing the **** out me! 2 Fijians, 2 Poms, a Frog and a Bok = 6. Take away from 15 leaves nine. And when I check I see my original addition was wrong. There are only 8 Paddies. Who's the extra dude? Hmmm?.....johng wrote:Just my smart Alec way of saying there were only 8 Irish.
You forgot the solitary Scot, John. So there!!!,
Re: European player of the Year
It's usually at least one in each position with at least one from each team. I reckon Hamish Watson would be there if he hadn't got injured at the expense of one of the wingers/fullbacks. It probably wouldn't be Furlong dropping out for Ryan. From the games I've watched he's probably bee the standout tighthead.curates_egg wrote:These exercises always have way too much wum factor.

Ruddock's tackle stats consistently too low for me to be taken seriously as a Six Nations blindside..... Ruddock's defensive stats don't stack up. - All Blacks Nil, Jan 15th, 2014
England A 8 - 14 Ireland A, 25th Jan 2014
Ruddock(c) 19/2 Tackles

Well he's the best tighthead in the world. He is excellent but definitely had a couple of quiet games, whereas last year he was on another planet.paddyor wrote:It's usually at least one in each position with at least one from each team. Anyway, it wasn't meant as a reflection on him, so much as Ryan and whatever algorithm they use to select the longlist.
I would have Ryan as on of our top 2/3 players in terms of impact.
Is he being excluded because Nakarawa was also good in a different team?
It's instructive to see two of Munster's three are the Leinster duo the IRFU brought in for them this season in the latest digout. Although I would agree Carbery is some kind of political punt on that list: has mixed the sublime with the substandard.

But only 3 matter ................ Cronin, Furlong and Ringrose
Re: European player of the Year
I'm happy for Cronin, it's nice recognition for his performances
Re: European player of the Year
I really want Furlong to get European Player of the Year (oh Great One, we do not deserve you), and Cronin to finish as top try scorer in the Heineken Cup - preferably with a break and stunning finish from inside our own half in one of the knock-out games amongst his tries.
"This is breathless stuff.....it's on again. Contepomi out to Hickie,D'Arcy,Hickie.......................HICKIE FOR THE CORNER! THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: European player of the Year
I was just thinking a few games ago that Cronin never gets the MOTM award. He plays so well, big highlights reel and lots of tries. Is it that he's often gone by the hour mark?
So finally some official recognition for the Nugget even if it's just a nomination, for now.

You know I'm going to lose,

But that's the way I like it baby, I don't want to live FOREVER!
