Leinster Squad 19-20

Tomane is very much considered a first choice reserve centre for Leinster. If he were fit, I think he would be starting at 12 for a couple of these games over Christmas and would probably be 23 on the occasions he wasn’t selected.

As is always the case, his injury has opened the door for some other lads, but I still think he’s in the same position he was pre-injury.

I think he’s due back post 6 Nations (end of March / beginning of April), and a lot can change in that amount of time, but unless one of the O’Briens play out of their skin over the next few months, I’d expect him to be back starting 12 in the end of season games. He is a 17 times capped Wallaby after all.

Kane Douglas was a capped wallaby who couldn't force his way into the starting 15 regardless the number of attempts, so I wouldn't be using that as the standard.
Joe has looked good on occasion, but he'll have a fight on his hands to get the 12 shirt back.

I don’t think Tomane is ever likely to be in our starting 15 to be honest. I think he’s the first choice to replace someone in the case of injuries in the centre right now.

Might the wider leinster squad be much weaker next season? The following could all be gone next season:

Mick Kearney(28) - Signed contract in 2017
Scott Fardy(35) - Signed 2 yr contract in 2017
Sean O'Brien(32) - Signed central 3 yr contract in 2016
Noel Reid(29) - Signed contract in 2017
Dave Kearney(30) - Signed contract in 2018
Rob Kearney(33) - Signed central contract until 2019 WC.

Mick Kearney - is this just a rumour or is at least likely.
If he's leaving it might improve our chances of keeping Fardy.
Scott Fardy - nnoooooooooo
Sean O'Brien - Doesn't affect Leinster directly however his replacement in the Ireland squad might come from Leinster's pool of talent.
Noel Reid - A year too soon.
Dave Kearney - Would be a pity but alleviate partly by the fact that we will have no restriction on selection of Lowe.
Rob Kearney - Good for another season at least injury permitting.
We have seen very little of SOM, DK and RK this season and have coped well.
For me Fardy is the key, we should be fighting very hard to keep him for another season.

RK & DK have started 15 games this season for Leinster, 4 in europe.

If the players I listed do leave, that's a lot of experience shorn from the wider squad and more and more young players will be called upon to step up in big games.

And the Leinster squad will undoubtedly be weaker next season, which is probably inevitable, just like its weaker this season than last.

Not disagreeing with you at all but the players that started this season are going to be a season more experienced next season.
The remaining Pro14 games can be used to help this progress.
The performance against Scarlets at the weekend would give your argument some weight.
Our coaching ticket is having it put up to them, rumours of John Fogarty moving up, if true, won't help either.

I think we’ve cover in the back with the Two year three academy boys and Kellegher if we lose Dave and Rob.
Noel Reid would be a loss but with the o Brian’s and Tom Daly possible to come back we would be covered.
We’re well stocked at 7 if Sean were to go.
I thought Mick has had a few good games this year but I would gladly see him go if it helped justify keeping Fardo. We can’t lose Fardy next year, we are supplying the two starting second rows to the Ireland team and with so many highly rated academy players in year one and the sub academy surly it makes sense to keep him around.

That’s fine is it? I still think we would be covered if we lost Noel.

It's odd that Henshaw's contract hasn't been sorted yet, same with Healy. Both out of contract post WC.

not when its central contracts, hence why Sexton has been announced already this season.

Their agents would have started rumours in the press by now.

I don't expect to see any defections from front tier internationals after what happened Zebo.
