Yep if I remember correctly this all started with the fans booing Axel and his cr@p coaching except the media came in and twisted it. It fits the narrative now with Foley's untimely death that it was all Kealtey's fault.

Exactly, it was always Keatley's fault as well as Foley being a dreadful coach who'd had lost the fans.

Keatley was not quite at the standard you need to be successful. He has a tendency to miss the crucial kicks something he was never able to eradicate from his game despite being given a long time to do it. It must have been frustrating for him as much as anyone coaching him because he had the kicking ability. This would then be compounded by his confidence levels dropping off as well as the effect it had on team morale. It used to be heart in mouth time whenever he had a kick. Munster and Munster supporters have nothing to feel apologetic about in my view. A tiny number of boo boys in one game is all ye need to condemn us all. Munster persisted with him too long, compare that with how little time JS had for him at international level

“Not good enough” is an odious and repulsive argument. Keatley was good enough to play 180 times for Munster. He was good enough to play for Ireland, even last season. He was good enough to get them to a few semis. He was good enough to be their starting 10 when they signed players in other positions. He was good enough not to be targeted at high level.

He wasn’t better than ROG. His kicking numbers were only good when an elite kicker might have won some close matches. If Munster has been better he would have won loads. They weren’t and aren’t good enough for him.

I thought him carrying the blame for Munster losing to Racing was ridiculous: the pack was pushed around. In fact his half back partner was more to blame for the loss. A Munster fan on here was blaming Ketley for the lost line outs. Thst was particularly ridiculous as he rescued line out miscues.

The down side for us is that the bleating chorus in the media cost us an outhalf/fullback of great potential to a team with no form for developing them.

For someone who barely played all season, he hit the ground running. 2 tries in 2 games.

Fans of the opposition insisting that you had a great out half and outraged that you have offloaded him, I think I know how much notice to take of that all right.

Nobody that I read suggested he was a "great" outhalf. But don't let facts get in the way of a sunday rant!

Yes that's more like it now. He wasn't great and you're annoyed that we didn't persisted with him. Got it

Of course not. You are perfectly comfortable with targetting players that are not local and not international standard. Its part of buying into playing for Munster.

Joke club. Joke fans.

He went from 1st choice to 5th choice overnight. It happened for political reasons to help poach an elite player from a different province.

If it had been a rugby decision that would be one thing, but it was mendacity.

Not everyone gets to make it, but there should be some effort to look after players. What was the benefit of trying to ruin his career by making him ride the pine. He was in the best form of his life.

Or the Munster coach decided he wasn't in his plans for next season and to give the players he was keeping more gametime?

So he might have treated him better if it had suited him. Thanks. Dumping players like that isn't especially common in other clubs, especially guys who have proven themselves repeatedly.

Munster have become a mercenary club but even that level is a bit shocking.

This is a guy who played over 20 games per season for 7 years. But he's not listed on the squad page and Munster couldnt manage a quote from coach or captain thanking him for his service in the press release announcing his departure.

If nothing else it must be hugely expensive to pay all those salaries for players unnecessary due to coaches whim.

Why should keats be treated any differently to Peter Stringer and Donnacha O'Callaghan?

(By the way, Keats will get his send off at the end of the season when Munster usually do a highlights of players that leave. Why should he be listed on Munster's site when in fact he is playing (on loan) for another club?

In fairness I think that's what was pointed out, and not just by Munster fans, that Keats was good enough to get them to a SF but not to win a championship.
I'm not going to name names but I'm sure there have been Leinster players that got plenty of caps (probably not as much as Keats) that most would agree 'weren't good enough'.

The same could be said for a large section of the rest of the squad but it doesn't happen.

Munster didn't win any HCs since 2008 because they werent good enough, not because Ian Keatley wasn't good enough.

I've seen teams with loads of quality held back by problems at outhalf. Keatley wasn't a star on the team but he never held them back from anything. All outhalves have their good and bad days.

Repeating the trope should be embarrassing for a self-aware rugby fan.
