Re: Academy 2018/2019
These players look like they are likely in the incoming class:
Tom Clarkson(Prop/Blackrock/DUFC)(U19)
John McKee(Hooker/Campbell/Old Belvedere)(U19)
Charlie Ryan(Lock/Blackrock/UCD)(U20)
Martin Moloney(Backrow/Athy RFC/Old Belvedere)(U20)
Liam Turner(Centre-Wing/Blackrock/DUFC)(U20)
Have heard conflicting info on Cormac Foley.
Could see Ronan Watters and a few other the current under-20's be involved in preseason and given another look and join then ala Dan Sheehan this season.
Same goes for next years under-20's.
Apparently the Celtic Cup kicks off 24th August and runs until the 12th October, would expect this team to be younger than last years given WC, so mostly under-20.

Re: Academy 2018/2019
I'd assume they wanted a specialist 12 in because there's only really Foley that can play there left in the squad.Ruckedtobits wrote:Adam LaGrue must feel a bit pi**ed off having been in 34-man panel and now overlooked twice with replacements.mildlyinterested wrote:David Ryan(St. Michaels/UCD) drafted into the u20 squad.
I'd hope though that they sent Adam a message explaining this because to be in the extended squad and see someone not in it called up before you would piss most people off I'd imagine.

LaGrue has experience on the wing though, so could have been called up there ahead of O'Sullivan or O'Reilly.

Re: Academy 2018/2019
Do you think? The league doesn't start till September 27. It could be a good chance for the likes of Kelleher, Abdaladze, Doris, O'Sullivan, JOB and even Dooley to get into a groove before the Pro14 kicks off, à la Conor O'Brien last season. Plus, JRWC players will probably need a break, no?mildlyinterested wrote:These players look like they are likely in the incoming class:

More than likely it will be a mix and match, early rounds for the 20s lads and getting steadily some more experienced players playing into September, not dis-similar to this season but we shall wait and see.leinsterforever wrote:Do you think? seen a rumour that Jack Aungier might be joining Clontarf.
Re: Academy 2018/2019
If the Celtic Cup does start on the 24th August, the first match will clash with our pre-season friendly against Canada in Toronto. We'll presumably have other pre-season friendlies in between that match and the start of the Pro14 so that would mean a young and presumably very inexperienced side in the Celtic Cup.leinsterforever wrote:Do you think? Re: Academy 2018/2019
But makes no sense of Leinster Protocol that every Academy player should be selected by their Club as first-choice AIL player. Don't they already have Vahk and, theoretically at least, Furlong. Charlie Ward, who is named in Irish U.20 Squad this weekend, is also listed as Clontarf. None of these players were developed by Clontarf but "recruited" by them. What attraction does Clontarf offer? Accomodation, Car? Hard to think they all just love the view.riocard911 wrote:Would make sense logistically for a Sutton/Howth head.mildlyinterested wrote:seen a rumour that Jack Aungier might be joining Clontarf.

Blackrock College RFC on twitter saying Aaron O'Sullivan is joining them from UCD, which would be an odd move, probably focusing on 7's next year anyway.

Vakh rarely played AIL last season so not sure thats a barrier for Aungier getting gametime.
and what was Aungier's attraction to either St. Marys or Terenure?
there are far more connections between suttonians and tarf than suttonians and those clubs who recruited him out of school and after his under-20 season.
Aungier needs to show notable progress next season, which is crazy to say as he is still just 20, but with Clarksons emergence this season he will be feeling pressure.
Ward will still be under-20 next season so his game time at AIL will be limited.
Clontarf have a good record in developing props so hopefully it works out for him and leinster.

Re: Academy 2018/2019
Review of italy game:
13. Liam Turner (Dublin University) - strong game in defense, limited chances in attack but looked good when on the ball.
12. Cormac Foley (St.Mary’s College) - did well to be in position to score his try, went well enough considering he was playing out of position, with some classy offloads but also some poor KOs and defence at 12 as to be expected.
11. Rob Russell (Dublin University) - finished his try well, but also left dropped a certain try on the line. got limited ball.
2. John McKee (Old Belvedere) - some poor lineout overthrows, part of a weak scrum but hard to know how much to blame for that he was, not very notable in open play.
3. Michael Milne (UCD) - scored a try, carried well and put in a big shift playing 80 mins after moving to 1 in 2nd half. Struggled hugely at TH, but scrummed better when at LH.
5. Ryan Baird (DUFC) - scored a try, put in a huge shift carrying the ball and in defense, moved to 6 when injuries struck. good game in lineout stealing a couple and calling the leinster lineout until Ryan came on.
16. Declan Adamson(Clontarf) - unused sub.
17. Tom Clarkson(DUFC) - came on at TH, saved the irish scrum and was generally very good in the loose as per usual.
18. Charlie Ward(Clontarf) - unused sub.
20. Charlie Ryan(UCD) - came on in the 1st half and played 5, usual performance from him being good generally without being flashy.
26. David Ryan(UCD) - came on at 78 mins, had one strong carry off a scrum.
27. Aaron O'Sullivan(UCD) - unused sub.
28. Max O'Reilly(DUFC) - came on at 78 mins, had one involvement of note where he dealt with a bouncing ball well enough.
