Pro14 R2: Leinster v Ospreys Fri Oct 4th 19:35 KO

Post by cormac »

Assume we'll see a little bit of rotation for this one with a 6-day turnaround after a trip to Italy. Still a week too soon for Lowe and Fardy?

Ospreys have lost quite a few to the RWC, plus they suffered a couple of bad injuries against Ulster last Friday.

Fardy was in Japan so I suppose it depends on when he flew back.

Lowe had a shoulder reconstruction as did Penny. (who benched last week) Maybe he will bench this week? People who look at training shots would probably tell you. :)

Yep, Fardy was at training on Monday so he's probably in the mix.

Ed Byrne is likely out with a neck injury!

Fardy was in the Eirsports studio for the Wales v Australia game on Sunday, so he's back in the country at least.

Lowe did a load of interviews last week and it didn't sound like he'd be back for another few weeks but he didn't give a date. My guess is that he'll wait until after the break after week three.

I know this isn't a surprise but he was pretty clear about the plan being to extend his contract and play for Ireland. Thought it was good to hear just so that there's no speculation about him leaving, got the feeling that a new deal was imminent.

When was the last time Deegan started at 8?

Ideal chance this weekend for them to swap Doris and Deegan, you'd hope.

We haven't had that many fahrden-born players in the side for quite a while. Luke won't be happy.

Still no sign of Cian Kelleher. And still no word of him being injured.

Very solid looking side again. Surprised a bit to see Connors getting two games in a row at 7. Wonder has he jumped ahead in that battle with Penny. Keenan getting a chance to audition for 15 jersey after JOB got his last week.

Tomane had a good outing last week so will be interesting to see how he goes here.

I'm always disappointed not to see Deegan starting (or just not at 8) but I can see why we want a proper blindside to do the dirty work in what are likely to be greasy conditions. Thought we missed a tackling machine like Murphy last week when the game was so open, he'd have plugged a lot of gaps.

Disappointed that JOB and Adam Byrne don't to get to build on their performances but we have a lot of depth so no harm to spread games around. Delighted that my guess about J-Lo was wrong and excited to see him play.

I didn't think Tomane was good last week tbh, he had a few decent carries but don't think he had much impact and don't think we trust his handling so ask him to play a limited game. Thought COB would start and disappointed that he's not.

Great to see Kelleher get another go. Very curious about the situation with his brother now, you'd have to wonder what we had in mind for him? Two sets of back three players picked so far (and Larmour and Rob on Ireland duty) and he still can't make the team?

Saw most of the Ospreys game last weekend and they started quite well but then got injuries and ran out of steam to an extent once Munster started to get ahead.

Match Preview

Leinster were obviously affected by events in Japan so much that they almost did their own tribute act.

Interesting that Osbourne got the nod ahead of Patterson for the bench slot. Thought Patterson looked pretty good in the couple of games he got last season. Good to get a look at someone new I guess.

Back row a little surprising, assuming there’s a plan for rotating all players involved for the next two games, so we should see Deegan reinstated next week.

JGP, Fardy & Lowe playing together for the first time. Glad that whole KOLPAK situation is finally done.

RE: Kelleher not starting, I’m assuming we consider him a wing only and in that regard, he’s never going to be picked ahead of a fit Lowe or McFadden, does beg the question when we will see him — presumably when McFadden inevitably gets injured.

Jack Kelly is so unfortunate to be injured. He’s a fantastic player and I wonder what the Leinster coaches don’t see in him he plays very well for Leinster A and he was fantastic in school I could of sworn he was going to go professional, really hope Leinster hold onto him as it will be Leinsters loss and another provinces gain. Wonder if he’s going to pick Law ahead of the rugby? Interesting times ahead
