Pilotman123 wrote:I don’t mind too much it being postponed I just hope it doesn’t get canceled altogether because imagine how the players and the school would feel if it got cancelled, Senior Cup final is more important than the pro14. This is Newbridges first final in decades and imagine if it was canceled? The lads have been dreaming about this moment their whole lives.
First of all, screw Newbridge.

Now, more importantly, you understand that this virus is contagious, right? It's not just the lads on the pitch, their parents and grandparents in the stand matter too. If you offered the lads the chance to play but at the risk that a family member died... I think they might be happy to be uncontested finalists.

That said, they could still play the final, just maybe after the LC. We might have better testing capabilities by then too.

51 years ago, the Leinster Schools Senior Cup Semi-final and Final were delayed by more that 6 weeks and eventually played within 8 days (all three games) at the end of April 1969. Members of all four semi-finalists (and the Referees) met up last March (2019) to review those events of 50 years ago. Almost 40 of the 60 players involved were present and all four teams had fascinating memories to recount.

The cause of the delay in the SCT finals was a national Schools strike. Two of the four Colleges involved were Boarding Schools (Newbridge and Blackrock) whilst the other two were day schools (St Mary's and Terenure). There were radically different experiences in each of the Schools during the Strike re training and no training and at the time everyone agreed that both the semi-finals and final were fairly extraordinary games.

Certainly all of the former players (now older gentlemen) had unique memories of those events and there were a number of surprising stories told on the night of the reunion.

So, whenever it is that the Newbridge and Clongowes lads get to face off against each other, they will be creating memories which will live with them all for decades to come - even if those memories differ for each one of the players involved.

Surely this Corona Virus will be sorted in May or June? Don’t know why they won’t play it until then, I know they’ve leaving certs but maybe after the leaving cert or sometime in May wouldn’t be a bad time to play it?

Love to know the Venn diagram overlap between the people signing this and those going to "Corona Virus House Parties"
I like your right leg. A lovely leg for the role.
I've got nothing against your right leg.
The trouble is ... neither have you

Intersting that its two teams from outside D4 yet the narrative is all "D4 knobs" etc, etc
You know I'm going to lose,
And gambling's for fools,
But that's the way I like it baby, I don't want to live FOREVER!

Some peoples minds are in more of a state than others.

Would mostly agree. Louis Mc Donough pips it at 10 for me though. Did the independent do their team of the tournament. I haven't seen it anywhere
